Tips: How to organize a
PowerPoint-Karaoke night
with friends
A PowerPoint-Karaoke-Night/-Party is a great way to spice up the usual get-togethers with friends and ensure lots of laughter. This fun and creative evening combines improvisation with presentation skills and guarantees unforgettable moments. With a little preparation and a positive attitude, your evening is sure to be a complete success.
Here you will find inspiration on how to organize such an evening perfectly.
Planning
-
Set date and location: Choose a date and a location that is easily accessible for all participants. A living room with enough space and seating is ideal.
-
Invitation: Create a fun invitation to explain the purpose of the evening to your friends. You can use a digital invitation tool or simply a messenger like WhatsApp.
-
Number of guests: There should be a minimum of 3 people for the evening, but of course you can also invite two people. There is no upper limit and it depends on the location. If everyone has a turn to present for about 8 minutes and PowerPoint karaoke is scheduled for about 2 hours in the evening, an evening with 4-8 people is recommended.
-
Technical equipment: Make sure you have a laptop, a projector or a large TV and a remote control for the presentations. A good sound system won’t hurt either to lift the mood.
KAPOPO also works on mobile devices, so you can also use screen mirroring with your smartphone or tablet in combination with your smart TV. -
Preparing the presentations: It’s best to prepare a series of fun and unusual presentations for your PowerPoint party. KAPOPO Premium offers you a large selection of presentations and themes. With the “Save presets” function, you can prepare yourself optimally and put together your own pool of PowerPoint karaoke presentations for the evening.
-
Snacks and drinks: Make sure you have enough snacks and drinks to keep the evening sociable. Finger food, potato chips and a few sweet treats are always a good choice. You should choose the drinks according to your guests’ preferences. Or plan so that everyone brings something.

How to Play PowerPoint-Karaoke
-
Welcome and introduction: Start the evening with a short welcome and explain the procedure and rules of the game. Emphasize that it’s about fun and creativity, not perfection. And emphasize once again that you have to act as if you are an expert in the field you are presenting. Freely according to the “SABTA principle – confident appearance with total cluelessness”.
-
Let’s go: Let the participants draw lots for the order of the presentations. Everyone should have the chance to have at least one turn. Or it starts with the person who had the last birthday, the youngest or oldest, the tallest or shortest in the room.
-
Duration of the presentations: Experience has shown that it is useful to set a time limit per presentation. We recommend 6-10 minutes per presentation. The KAPOPO timer function can be used for this purpose.
-
Presentations: The first participant stands in front of the group, is assigned a random presentation and begins the presentation immediately. The other guests are the audience and should be encouraged to respond with applause and laughter.
Extra tip: Of course, the classic pointing stick should not be missing. This serves as a kind of extension of the index finger for manual pointing. If you don’t have one, be creative and improvise: vacuum cleaner pipe, fishing rod, plastic or laser sword of the children/siblings, wooden stick, cooking spoon and anything else that looks like a pointing stick and can be repurposed for the evening.
-
Breaks: Plan short breaks between presentations so that participants can relax and talk about the presentations they have just seen. This encourages socializing and keeps the mood relaxed.
-
Optional awards ceremony: At the end of the evening, you can hold a small awards ceremony. You can award points and write them down on slips of paper. Small prizes such as chocolate or funny trophies make the finale even more exciting.
Extra tip: In drugstores there is always a shelf with trial sizes of shampoo, hand cream, lip balm, etc. Maybe everyone brings a little something from home and the winner gets everything – à la scrap metal Secret Santa.
There are no limits to creativity.
Tips for a successful evening:
-
Humor is key: Encourage your friends to be humorous and creative.
-
Don’t be afraid of failure: Emphasize that there are no wrong answers and it is not a competition. The goal is to have fun and laugh. Everyone attending the evening should be prepared to present. If necessary, start yourself. Then everyone will see that it’s not so bad.
-
Game variations: KAPOPO Premium offers you additional functions that provide even more fun and challenge. For example, a quiz awaits you at the end of each presentation that you can solve together. There is also a game variant with random words or random tasks during the presentation. All presentations are also available in English if your circle of friends is more international.
-
(Optional): Rate yourselves based on points (0-10) and criteria such as flow, gestures, appropriate technical terms/jargon, credibility and how someone got through the presentation overall.
